NEWARK, New Jersey— The New Jersey Symphony has named Gaetan Le Divelec vice president of artistic planning and operations, the orchestra announced Friday. He begins Nov. 1.
Le Divelec joins from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where he served as vice president of artistic planning from 2022 to 2026, working with music director Nathalie Stutzmann on classical programming, guest artists, conductors, repertoire, and new series.
In the new post, he will help plan seasons, engage guest artists and conductors, and oversee orchestra operations for performances across New Jersey. He will work with music director Xian Zhang, principal guest donductor Joshua Bell, and president and CEO Terry D. Loftis. The appointment comes as the symphony plans a new permanent office, rehearsal and concert space, called Symphony Center, in Jersey City.
Le Divelec has 35 years of experience in classical music, including 15 in senior leadership. He spent more than two decades at the London-based artist management firm Askonas Holt, where he managed a roster that included Sir András Schiff, Robin Ticciati, Nathalie Stutzmann, Alisa Weilerstein and Matthias Pintscher. Named a director of the company in 2016, he led a team responsible for more than 30 artists. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 1991, he worked for a decade as a freelance oboist and teacher in London before joining Askonas Holt in 1999.
“Gaetan has seen our art form from every side of the stage: as a performer, as a trusted manager to some of the world’s great conductors and soloists, and as head of artistic planning at a major American orchestra,” Loftis said in a statement. “His relationships across the international music world and his commitment to young artists make him an ideal partner for Xian, our musicians and our team as we innovate and expand in new and exciting ways.”
Zhang said she looks forward to partnering with him to bring artists and programs to audiences throughout the state. Le Divelec, a native of Nantes, France, who lived in London from 1986 until moving to the United States in 2022, said he is honored to join the orchestra and looks forward to creating seasons that reach both new and existing audiences.
The New Jersey Symphony, a Grammy- and Emmy-winning orchestra, performs more than 55 concerts each season at mainstage venues as well as in schools and public spaces. Zhang has served as music director since 2016. ■
